Irish (H)

Why do we say cúig bhord but ocht mbord? What is the difference between a cóta and a chóta? When do I use le and leis ? In this course, we will give the students the necessary skills to start composing their own sentences by focusing on some of the structures in the Irish language. We will branch out from our verbs to add in some clauses, grammar associated with numbers and the possessive adjective in all its variants. Most importantly, we will focus on prepositions in Irish and their uses which I find to be a corner stone in composing grammatically correct sentences. By the end of the course, the students will feel more confident in writing their own sentences in Irish.

Topics from:

Grammar

  • This will be reinforced through reading comprehension and written composition exercises.

Writing techniques

  • Students will be provided with key vocabulary and phrases, to allow them to broaden the range of pieces they can create.

Listening skills

  • These will be incorporated into vocabulary exercises to give students a well rounded experience in language skills.
