Irish (H)

What is the difference between ag déanamh and a dhéanamh? What is the difference between ceol, cheoil and ceoil? What is the difference between teaghlach and teaghlaigh? In this course, we will give students the skills that are essential in composing their own sentences in Irish therefore removing the tendency to learn material off by heart at Leaving Cert level. To get the students composing their own sentences, we will focus on key structural issues in the language. Firstly, we will branch out from our simple verbal conjugations to add in the Conditional Mood and the clauses associated with it. We will also take a look at the Verbal Noun in Irish, one of the corner stones in sentence composition. Having completed the structural issues, we will then focus on the masculine and feminine nouns in Irish while introducing students to the Genitive case. By the end of the course, students will feel more confident in approaching Leaving Cert material.
