Maths Paper 1 (O) 2017: The dreaded calculus was barely asked

Reaction to Leaving Cert 2017 Maths Paper 1 (Ordinary Level) by Jean Kelly, Maths teacher at The Institute of Education.

Students will be really pleased with this ordinary level Maths paper.

There were no ambiguities and the questions were nice and clear and to the point.

Students will have known exactly what to do.

Students will have been surprised to see the Trapezoidal Rule appear on Paper 1, as generally it comes up with area and volume on Paper 2. It was nice question though.

For a maths course with a wide range of topics, and a large amount of material to learn, very few topics were asked.

Algebra featured heavily on the paper in comparison to previous years.

The dreaded calculus was barely asked, which students will be delighted with.
