The Institute was delighted to host the Senior Applied Maths Dublin City Regional Quiz on Thursday 7 March here in the school.
Organised by the Irish Applied Maths Teacher’s Association, this annual problem-solving table quiz takes place in seven venues across the country, all using the same questions at the same time.
29 teams attended on the evening, 12 of which were from the Institute.
The winners, from Alexandra College, were awarded beautiful glassware to display in their school. Two Belvedere teams took second and third place. One of the Institute teams came 5th, just three points behind the winners.
It was great to see so many young people taking part in an event in which Applied Maths becomes a sport – just for fun.
The top teams will compete in the All-Ireland Final which will take place on Saturday 23 March in Athlone Community College.
Congratulations to all who took part and special thanks to all those at the Institute who helped to make the event possible. There is quite a lot of organization involved. Special thanks to maths teacher Oliver Murphy and 5th year students Katie Burke, Domhnall O’Gorman and Alan Tully who helped out on the evening.
