I liked how interactive it was and how comprehensively all the material was covered. I thought the teacher was excellent.

I didn't think online grinds at The Institute would work for me. I was wrong. The class is live, you can ask questions and chat to your teacher, and if you miss something you go back to the recording. I did Chemistry online all year and got a H2!

I play county football and I was convinced grinds would tip me over the edge. They didn't. One hour a week, focused, with notes and a recording afterwards. Such a great support!

Study Independently at The Institute

Completing a subject outside of the students’ regular school is a significant commitment. These courses are also referred to as “Extra” or “External” subjects.

At The Institute of Education these courses are specifically designed for students who choose to study an extra or external subject in addition to the subjects they are studying in their regular school. These courses start preparing students for their Leaving Certificate Examination from the very first class. 5th and 6th Year students are taught in the same class, apart from Applied Maths and Politics & Society, which have separate 5th & 6th Year classes. While some of the content may be specific to students completing the Leaving Certificate in 2027, in our experience teaching both 5th and 6th Year students together is a significant benefit to the 5th Year students as it sets expectations of both the students and their teacher from day 1. The teacher will clearly set out 6th Year specific content, and the 5th Year students benefit form completing the course twice, in advance of their Leaving Certificate in June 2028.
