It’s Week 29 of The Buzz Newsletter! Congratulations to our sailing team of Ben Moreau, Emily Cantwell, Sean Cronin, Peter Kenny, Brian Carroll and Emil Conan who came 3rd in the The ITRA Schools Leinster Team Racing Championships on Friday 7th March! Hosted by the Royal Irish Yacht Club, 16 teams from across the province showcased exceptional sailing prowess, competing in a series of 56 thrilling races. Well done all!
Congratulations to 5th Year student Shaunak Mohapatra who has been accepted into the Research Science Institute (RSI) 2025, a prestigious summer programme hosted by MIT. Out of thousands of applicants worldwide, only 100 students were selected, and Shaunak is the sole participant selected from Ireland. The RSI stands as one of the most prestigious summer programmes in the world. Shaunak will be focusing on computational neuroscience, conducting research under the mentorship of world-renowned professors and researchers on the MIT campus. Well done Shaunak!
There is a golf outing for students on Monday 14th April (during Easter holidays). This outing is open to any student with an official Golf Ireland handicap index. Numbers are limited so if interested, send your name to jtaylor@instituteofeducation.ie. Tee times are 10am and 10:30am, location will be confirmed closer to the date. The cost is €20 for greens fees, lunch and prizes. This will be the last golf outing of the year so take the opportunity to get some exercise, have fun and a well earned break from study!
With our 6th Year students settling into serious study mode for the upcoming Leaving Certificate exams, there are some options being offered in libraries at third level institutions:
- TU Dublin are offering a Free Leaving Cert Study Programme at the libraries at each of their 5 campuses from 26th May – 24th June at Grangegorman, Aungier Street, Blanchardstown, Bolton Street and Tallaght.
- Details of the UCD Library 2025 Leaving Certificate Student Study Programme will also be available in May.

- 25th March: University of Limerick (UL) is hosting their Business Information Session at 7:30pm. This is for Leaving Cert students interested in studying Business at UL.
- 25th March: Medicine Poland Veterinary Career & University online Open Day from 7-8pm.
- 26th March: Rathmines FET College Open Day from 1-3pm.
- 27th March: SETU Waterford Spring Open Evening @6pm.
- 29th March: TU Dublin Aungier Street CAO Open Day from 10am-12:30pm.
- 29th March: MTU Kerry Campus Spring Open Day from 10am-1pm.
Masterclasses:
- This Monday 24th, there is a Biology masterclass with Wesley Hammond. It is 5th & 6th Years and is in person in room 4-8 at 3:30pm.
- This Wednesday 26th, there is a Chemistry with Ali Fox. It is for 5th & 6th Years and is live online at 4:30pm. The link is on your Moodle.
