Want to be confident and fully prepared for the Leaving Certificate oral language exams? Our Oral Preparation Classes in Irish, French, Spanish & German consist of 4 hours of expert tuition, covering all aspects of the oral examinations.

Mock Oral Interview

To obtain maximum benefit from the oral preparation class all students must attend a one-to-one oral interview, which is scheduled subsequently. The interview is approximately 15 minutes in duration and includes feedback from teachers. It is designed to simulate Leaving Certificate exam conditions, which helps to boost student confidence and develop their oral examination technique.

Irish (H/O)

All areas of the Scrúdú Béil are covered, with comprehensive “question and answer” on all the four sections.

  • Fáiltiú.
  • Aithris Filíochta.
  • Sraith Pictiúr.
  • Comhrá.
  • A mock interview is scheduled subsequently, with feedback for each student.

 

French (H/O)

This exam-focused course is intended to build student confidence and conversational technique, ensuring a more relaxed and confident performance in the Leaving Certificate French oral examination.

  • The marking scheme and how to maximize the points given to the four main areas:
    Pronunciation – 20%
    Vocabulary – 20%
    Structure – 30%
    Communication – 30%
  • Audio File
    Handouts with exam focused notes accompany an audio file.
    Personal and abstract topics and current affairs.
    Extensive vocabulary.
  • Grammar
    Tense changes.
    Use of pronouns and verbs and their prepositions.
  • Communication skills during interview
    How to analyse a question.
    How to develop the topic to enhance vocabulary.
    How to lead into a chosen theme.
  • Document Option
    Tips and techniques to develop and increase interest in it.

German (H/O)

This exam-focused course is intended to build student confidence and conversational technique, ensuring a more relaxed and confident performance in the Leaving Certificate Spanish oral examination.

  • Students may attend any class, but can only attend an interview scheduled after their block class. Students can book interviews in 1 hour blocks during the 4 hour interview period.
  • All preparation classes and mock interviews take place on our main school campus, 79-85 Lower Leeson Street, Dublin 2.

  • Credit Card payments accepted
  • 10% reduction for the second and subsequent members of the same family, attending the same courses. Please contact our office to avail of this discount.

Q: Can I be admitted to class without my card?

A: It is every student’s personal responsibility to ensure they have their card with them each time they attend classes at the Institute. We have the right to refuse admission to any student who does not comply with this regulation. If you have misplaced or have not received your card please come into our reception and we will issue you with a replacement or temporary card.

Q: Is there a place I can get lunch?

A: Yes, we have an onsite canteen serving a variety of sandwiches and drinks. Also, locally, there are sandwich bars and shops.

Q: My son/daughter is unwell and cannot attend. Can I have a refund?

A: No, there are no refunds. However, if you return the student’s admission card to us immediately, along with a short letter of explanation, at the discretion of management, a credit note can be put on the student’s file for future use or for use by a sibling.

Q: My son/daughter cannot attended the course. Can we buy the notes?

A: No. Teaching is a central part of all our courses. The notes are to facilitate recall and revision of the day’s work covered by the teacher.

Teachers For This Course

Orla Ní Shúilleabháin

Orla has been teaching German at The Institute for 27 years and has also taught in a number of schools in the Greater Dublin area. She has contributed to a variety of exam programmes in the media, namely RTE radio’s post-exam analysis and Drive Time. Orla has worked as editorial consultant on a number of German text books, including Klassel and Klasse2 and is one of the authors of the 2014 Exam Times languages supplement, published by the Irish Times. Orla is also a fully qualified life and business coach, accredited by the European Coaching Institute. In her role as academic mentor here at The Institute, she has developed an integrated study skills programme which assists students to maximise their potential across all subject areas. She is author of Revise Wise Study Skills And Exam Essentials published by Edco.
