The Leaving Certificate Oral Preparation classes will help students maximise their marks in this critical aspect of the language exams. The Oral Preparation classes will provide students with the tools to improve their vocabulary, grammar and most importantly; confidence. Our teachers have prepared thousands of students for the oral examinations they know exactly what students need to deliver to achieve maximum marks.

This course also provides students the opportunity to complete a practice oral examination, simulating exam conditions so they can practice the skills and knowledge they have acquired.

Mock Oral Interview

To obtain maximum benefit from the oral preparation class all students will have the option to attend a one-to-one practice oral interview, which is scheduled subsequently. The interview is approximately 15-20 minutes in duration and includes feedback from teachers. It is designed to simulate Leaving Certificate exam conditions, which helps to boost student confidence and develop their oral examination technique.

Irish (H)

The Irish Oral exam is worth 40% of a student’s overall Leaving Cert grade in Irish. Many students experience significant pressure to perform exceptionally well in this.
This Leaving Cert Oral preparation course will help students achieve their potential and boost their confidence by providing a full set of comprehensive notes. These notes will include sample answers covering all aspects of the Irish Oral Exam from the Introduction, to the Poetry Reading, to the Conversation and the Picture Sequences.
We will also look at the layout of the exam, pronunciation in Irish, strategy, tips and techniques as well as advice on the most optimal way to prepare and study for this 40% exam and achieve the highest possible grade.

 

French (H)

The French oral exam accounts for 25% of the overall marks awarded in French. This exam-focused course is intended to build student confidence and conversational technique, ensuring a more relaxed and confident performance in the Leaving Certificate French oral examination.

  • The marking scheme and how to maximize the points given to the four main areas:
    • Pronunciation – 20%
    • Vocabulary – 20%
    • Structure – 30%
    • Communication – 30%
  • Grammar
    • Tense changes.
    • Use of pronouns and verbs and their prepositions.
  • Communication skills during interview
    • How to analyse a question.
    • How to develop the topic to enhance vocabulary.
    • How to lead into a chosen theme.
    • Extensive vocabulary.
  • Document Option
    • Tips and techniques to develop and increase interest in it.
  • A mock interview scheduled subsequently, with feedback for each student

 

German (H)

This course will develop and reinforce the student’s proficiency in speaking while concentrating on the skills and Grammar required for the Leaving Certificate German Oral Exam 2023.
  • Leaving Certificate German Oral format and marking scheme will be covered in detail including roleplays and pictures sequences for 2023.
  • In-depth concentration on answering skills and techniques needed to achieve maximum marks.
  • General questions on all main themes will be covered with sample answers provided.
  • Main tenses – Present /Past /Future /Conditional with sample answers supplied.
  • Option to discuss a German Literary Text or German Film
  • Essential Grammar including word Order needed for the Oral
  • Project option covered.
  • How to maximise your grade in the Oral Exam.

 

Spanish (H)

The Spanish oral exam accounts for 25% of the overall marks awarded in Spanish. This exam-focused course is intended to build student confidence and conversational technique, ensuring a more relaxed and confident performance in the Leaving Certificate Spanish oral examination.

  • Interview:
    • Expanding on common topics
    • General questions on all main themes will be covered with sample answers provided
  • Key Grammar Points
    • Tenses: Present, Future, Conditional, 3 Past Tenses, Subjunctive

  • Role Plays – Preparation
  • Tips on how to perform best on the day and maximise your grade in the Oral Exam

Please note:

  • Students may attend one class only but can only attend an interview scheduled after their block class. Students can book interviews in 20-minute blocks during the 4 hour interview period.
  • All preparation classes take place either online or on our main school campus, 79-85 Lower Leeson Street, Dublin 2. All Mock Interviews will take place online.

Q: What subjects are available in Leeson Street?

Q: If I enrol in a class in Leeson Street, can I also avail of classes online?

A: Yes, you can enrol in a combination of online and onsite classes.

 

Q: Are my onsite classes recorded?

A: Yes, all classes, whether online or onsite, are recorded and available to students to watch back online for revision. All students will be sent login details for our student platform; Moodle, where they can watch back any of their classes.


Q: Are the class notes available online?

A: No, a hard copy will be provided to each student from the teacher for the subjects they enrol in.


Q: How much is the fee per subject?

A: This depends on the number of subjects taken. Please refer to the fees tab to see a list of fees.


Q: Are the classes conducted ‘lecture style’ or are students free to ask questions?

A: Our classes are run in more lecture style than most students might be used to in school. However, they are also interactive, and our teachers use a variety of methods to ensure that students can ask questions and contribute to the class.

Online Exam Revision Course – FAQ

Q: What subjects are available Online?

A: Please refer to the ‘Subjects’ tab to view the schedule of subjects on offer online.

 

Q: How do I access my online classes?

A: Students enrolled on the course will receive an email from us containing their unique login details and links to access their chosen subjects. Login credentials will be sent in advance of course start date. Only those details sent to you will enable you to successfully access classes online.

 

Q: How are the online classes hosted?

A: All online classes are hosted live on Microsoft Teams. The links to the classes are accessed via Moodle. Students must sign into both Moodle and MS Teams with the @instituteofeducation.ie login credentials sent to the student.

 

Q: What equipment do I need to access online grinds?

A: We would advise that all students enrolling in our online grinds have the following:

  • Access to a reliable wifi service.
  • Access to a PC, Laptop, Tablet, or similar device.
  • We would not recommend using a mobile phone.
  • Headphones/earphones.

 

Q: If I'm attending the online classes will I have access to the notes?

A: Yes, students enrolled in online classes will receive a delivery of notes for each chosen subject. Please allow five working days for delivery from the time of booking.

 

Q: Are the class notes available online?
