Maths Paper 1 (O) 2016: Financial maths featured heavily throughout the paper

Comment/ analysis on Maths Paper 1 (ORDINARY Level): Jean Kelly, Maths teacher at The Institute of Education.

Overall students will be very pleased with the Ordinary Level Paper 1, and it will give them confidence going in to Paper 2.

Unlike last year, the wording of the questions was clear and straight forward.

Financial maths featured heavily throughout the paper. Income tax, compound interest and working out hourly rates of pay featured in three separate questions.

For a course with a wide range of topics, and a large amount of material to learn, very few topics came up in any great detail. Algebra, which is a significant part of the syllabus, only appeared in a short question.

Two of the long questions had functions and graphs, which students love.
