Our 6th Year February Midterm Revision Course is designed to help Leaving Cert students maximise their results in the Leaving Certificate exams.

Set during the February Midterm break, these 4-hour live onsite and online classes give students the skills they need to succeed, with particular attention given to likely topics, as well as exam skills and techniques.

 

Students can choose to study through fully interactive online and/or onsite classes, at our Leeson Street campus.

All students attending online classes will receive their exam-focused notes in the post. Those attending onsite classes will receive their notes in the classroom.

Irish (H)

In this course we will highlight the key points needed in order to give students the confidence and skillsets they need to tackle their Leaving Cert.

We will approach more of the poetry and prose sections bearing in mind the common pitfalls on the paper. Our students will be provided with excellent material and be given a revision of the literary layouts and methods to approach them effectively and efficiently. We will offer an opportunity to tackle the most current essays with excellent notes containing vocab, phrases and full sample material that can be used in a broad context. This course will see our students feeling confident as they approach exam season.

 

Maths (H)

Spanish (H)

  • The present indicative and simple past tenses in detail, with notes provided on other tenses.

  • Approaches for the Journalistic and Section B texts, with a focus on synonyms and translation in context.

  • Diary and Note – phrases to use and key themes to practice
  • Opinion Piece – structure and approach, idiomatic expressions and key topics

Listening Comprehension:

  • Vocabulary for the weather report
  • Resources for working on listening skills

Oral:

Spanish (Oral)

French (Oral)

The French oral exam accounts for 25% of the overall marks awarded in French. This exam-focused course is intended to build student confidence and conversational technique, ensuring a more relaxed and confident performance in the Leaving Certificate French oral examination.

  • Vocabulary – 20%
  • Structure – 30%

Tense changes

Use of pronouns and verbs in their prepositions

Each student may take a practice oral interview, with feedback provided.

 

German (Oral)

This course will develop and reinforce the student’s proficiency in speaking while concentrating on the skills and grammar required for the Leaving Certificate German Oral Exam.

  • Leaving Certificate German Oral format and marking scheme will be covered in detail including roleplays and pictures sequences for 2025.
  • In-depth concentration on answering skills and techniques needed to achieve maximum marks.
  • General questions on all main themes will be covered with sample answers provided.
  • Main tenses – Present, Past, Future, Conditional with sample answers provided.
  • Option to discuss a German Literary Text or German film.
  • Essential Grammar including word order needed for the oral.
  • Project option covered.
  • How to maximise your grade in the Oral Exam.

Each student may take a practice oral interview, with feedback provided.

 

Irish (Oral)

The Irish Oral exam is worth 40% of a student’s overall Leaving Cert grade in Irish. Many students experience significant pressure to perform exceptionally well in this.

This Leaving Cert Oral preparation course will help students achieve their potential and boost their confidence by providing a full set of comprehensive notes. These notes will include sample answers covering all aspects of the Irish Oral Exam from the introduction, to the Poetry Reading, to the Conversation and the Picture Sequences.

We will also look at the layout of the exam, pronunciation in Irish, strategy, tips and techniques as well as advice on the most optimal way to prepare and study for this 40% exam and achieve the highest possible grade.

Each student may take a practice oral interview, with feedback provided.

Q: If I enrol in a class in Leeson Street, can I also avail of classes online?

A: Yes, you can enrol in a combination of online and onsite classes.

 

Q: Are my onsite classes recorded?

A:  Yes, All classes, whether online or onsite, are recorded and available to students to watch back online for revision. All students will be sent login details for our student platform; Moodle, where they can watch back any of their classes. All class recordings are available until the end of the State Exams 2025.

 

Q: Are the class notes available online?

A: Yes, a hard copy will be provided to each student from the teacher for the subjects they enrol in.

 

Q: How long is each class?

A: Each class lasts 4 hours.

 

Q: How much is the fee per subject?

A: This depends on the number of subjects taken. Please refer to the fees table to see a list of fees.

 

Q: Are the classes conducted ‘lecture style’ or are students free to ask questions?

A: Our classes are run in more lecture style than most students might be used to in school. However they are also interactive and our teachers use a variety of methods to ensure that students can ask questions and contribute to the class.

Online Midterm Revision Course – FAQ

Q: What subjects are available Online?

Q: How do I access my online grinds classes?

A: Students enrolled on the course will receive an email from us containing their unique login details and links to access their chosen subjects. Login credentials will be sent in advance of course start date. Only those details sent to you will enable you to successfully access classes online.

 

Q: How are the online grinds hosted?

A: All online classes are hosted live on Microsoft Teams. The links to the classes are accessed via Moodle. Students must sign into both Moodle and MS Teams with the @instituteofeducation.ie login credentials sent to the student.

 

Q: Are the online classes pre-recorded?

A: No, each online class is taught live as per the timetable. Recordings of classes will be available after each live class is completed. These can then be replayed as a revision aid.

A: We would advise that all students enrolling in our online classes have the following:

• Access to a reliable wifi service.
• Access to a PC, Laptop, Tablet, or similar device.
• We would not recommend using a mobile phone.
• Headphones/earphones.

 

Q: If I'm attending the online classes will I have access to the notes?

A: Yes, students enrolled in online classes will receive a delivery of notes for each chosen subject. Please allow five working days for delivery from the time of booking.

 

Q: Are the class notes available online?

A: Yes, a hard copy will be posted out to each student for the subjects they enrol in.

 

Q: What style are the classes conducted in? Can students ask questions?

A: Our on-line classes are interactive, and teachers will use a variety of methods to ensure that students can learn and understand and feel comfortable asking questions verbally and using chat function and contributing to the class.
