It’s Week 19 of The Buzz Newsletter, and it’s the first one of 2025! We hope you all had a relaxing and enjoyable Christmas and are ready to tackle the new year with renewed energy!
Congratulations to 5th year student Nayan Levy who recently got the chance to perform in Paris with Grammy nominated Trumpet player Ibrahim Maalouf on his current album tour. Nayan travelled to France to prepare for the tour, which allowed him some freedom to freestyle whilst playing live. He is now part of the TOMA (Trumpets of Michel-Ange) Academy and received a special trumpet which are special to Arab and world music. Well done Nayan, we wish you the very best in your musical endeavours!
Congratulations to 5th year students Liyuan (Kent) Liu, Yu Fei Shao and Tianci Yan who have all qualified for the American Invitational Maths Exam (AIME) by scoring over 88.5 in the AMC 12 exams. This is a fantastic achievement and we wish them all the best of luck in the AIME which takes place in February.
Thank you to everyone who helped make our Christmas Jumper Day in aid of Focus Ireland a success. Thank you to everyone who dressed up, to those who collected on the day, and a special thanks to Luke Rock for organising the day. We raised €1500 on the day for Focus Ireland, who who help people that are directly affected by homelessness. Well done everyone!
A reminder about our ‘Scenes from Shakespeare’ art competition, which is open to all 4th & 5th years. Create a painting or poster that represents a moment from Macbeth. Works are to be submitted by 31st January.
A final reminder that 6th years must pay and submit their UCAS applications by Monday January 13th.

- 9th January: UCD Science, Computer Science, Sustainability, Actuarial & Financial Studies Open Night.
- 10th January: RCSI Open Day. Now open for registration, this will book out so register early to avoid missing out.
Masterclasses:
- This Wednesday 8th, there is a Chemistry masterclass with Ali Fox. It is for 5th & 6th years and is live online at 4:30pm. The link is on your Moodle.
