English

This course is designed to familiarise incoming 5th Year students with the shape of the Leaving Cert Higher Level English course and to introduce to the students some of the key skills required for success in Leaving Certificate Higher Level English.

Session 1:

  • Examination papers overview
  • PCLM and the marking process
  • Paper 1 – Comprehension – Approaching Section a + sample answers/Approaching Section B + sample answers

Session 2:

  • Paper 1 – Comprehension – Question B continued + composition
  • Personal essay writing + sample answers

Session 3:

  • Paper 2 – Shakespeare – An introduction to William Shakespeare’s Hamlet

Session 4:

A brief look at the comparative Studies section

Paper 2 – Introduction to Poetry – Approaching the unseen poem + sample answers

Irish

This course is designed to help students begin 5th year with confidence and with a clearer understanding of what is involved in the Leaving Certificate Higher Level Irish course.

During the course, students will be introduced to key areas of the exam, including written work, literature, oral preparation and general language accuracy. We will look at the marking scheme, discuss common mistakes, and use sample material to help students understand how to approach their studies in a focused and practical way.

The Essay

Students will be introduced to essay writing at Leaving Certificate level. We will look at how to approach essay titles, how to begin planning an answer, and how to build useful vocabulary for common social and political topics. A sample essay will be used to help students understand the standard and structure expected.

Poetry and Prose

Students will be introduced to the poetry and prose sections of the course. We will look at how to approach literature questions, how to identify key points, and how to begin structuring clear and relevant answers.

The Oral

Students will be introduced to the layout of the oral exam and the type of preparation that will be useful over the two-year course. We will discuss common oral topics, sample answers and ways to begin building confidence, fluency and accuracy.

Grammar and Accuracy

Grammar will be addressed in a practical way throughout the course. The focus will be on helping students improve sentence structure, accuracy and confidence in both written and spoken Irish.

By the end of the course, students will have a clearer understanding of the Leaving Certificate Higher Level Irish course and will have gained practical guidance to support their learning as they begin 5th year.

This course will revise core topics and prepare students entering 5th Year Biology.

Topics covered include:

The Digestive System

The Unit of Life – The Cell

Biomolecules of life (food)

Transport across membranes (osmosis, diffusion, active transport)

Enzymes

Cell Division

The Circulatory System

The Breathing System

Each subject chosen will run over 4 consecutive days and each class is 75 mins in duration.

Bookings will remain open until the beginning of the course week.

FAQ

How do I access my online classes?

Students enrolled on the course will receive an email from us containing their unique login details and link to access their chosen subjects through our online student platform, Moodle. Login credentials will be sent in advance of the course start date. Only those details sent to you will enable you to successfully access classes online.

How are the online classes hosted?

All online classes are hosted live on Microsoft Teams. The links to the classes are accessed via Moodle. Students must sign into both Moodle and MS Teams with the @instituteofeducation.ie login credentials sent to the student.

Are the online classes pre-recorded?

Each online class is taught live with the teacher and class group as per the timetable. Recordings of each class will be available after each live class is completed. These can then be replayed as a revision aid until the end of June 2027.

Will I have access to recordings of the live classes?

Yes, recordings of classes will be available after each live class is completed. All classes are also recorded live. You will be able to re-watch, pause and rewind the class recordings as often as you wish, making them an invaluable revision aid. The live recordings will be available until the end of the State Exams in 2027. We advise that all students enrolling in our online classes have access to the following: – A reliable Wi-Fi service – A PC, Laptop, Tablet or similar device (We would recommend not to use a mobile phone) – Headphone/Earphones

If I'm attending the online classes, will I have access to the notes?

Yes, students enrolled in the online classes will receive a delivery of notes for each chosen subject. Please allow five working days for delivery from the time of booking. Notes are also available online on our student platform Moodle.

If I enrol in an online class can I still also enrol in other classes in Leeson Street?

Yes, Students can enrol in a mixture of classes online and at our school campus in Leeson Street.

Are my onsite classes recorded?

Yes, All classes, whether online or onsite, are recorded and available to students to watch back online for revision. All students will be sent login details for our student platform; Moodle, where they can watch back any of their classes.

Are the class notes available online?

Yes, notes are available online on our student platform Moodle.

How long is each class?

Each class is 75 minutes in duration each day for 4 days.

How much is the fee per class?

This depends on the number of subjects taken. Please refer to the fees table above to see a list of fees.

Can a 5th Year part-time student join a 6th Year class if the subject is not available at 5th Year level?

Yes, but consideration must be given to any changes in curriculum. Please contact our office to arrange this on 01 661 3511.

Are the classes conducted 'lecture style' or are students free to ask questions?

Our classes are interactive and our teachers use a variety of methods to ensure that students can ask questions and contribute to the class.

Can my son/daughter join the course after it has started?

Yes, students are welcome to join after the course has started, the full fee will apply, and students will get access to the recordings of classes that have already taken place. Notes for online classes will be posted, please allow up to 5 working days for delivery.

My son/daughter cannot attend the course. Can we buy the notes?

No, Teaching is a central part of all our courses and classes. The notes are to facilitate recall and revision of what was covered in class by the teacher.

Can I cancel my classes and get a refund?

Yes, refunds can be organised for cancelled classes if our office is notified before the course commences. A request for a refund can be made by contacting our office on 01 6613511 or visit our Help Desk.
