The Buzz Newsletter – Week 13

The Buzz Weekly Newsletter Week 13
Welcome to Week 13 of The Buzz Newsletter!

It’s Week 13 of The Buzz Newsletter,  and we’re getting closer to the end of the semester! Well done to 5th Year student Róisín Murphy who recently travelled to Calcutta with The Hope Foundation. Róisín had to fundraise €2500 to go on the cultural immersion trip which was organised to see first hand how the charity’s money is being spent. The Hope Foundation is dedicated to promoting the protection of street-dwelling and slum-connected children in Calcutta, some of the most underprivileged in India, as well as their families and communities.

A reminder that there is an incredible resource available on a weekly basis in the form of our drop-in tutorials. Unlike taught classes and revision classes, tutorials are student led. You can ask for help on any topic and request help with your homework. We encourage 6th years especially to drop in and get the extra support – check your monthly calendar for details.

The ‘Scenes from Shakespeare’ art competition is open to all 4th & 5th year students. Create a painting or a poster that represents a moment from Macbeth. First prize is a €250 voucher. Works are to be submitted by Friday January 31st – talk to your English and/or Art teacher.

Any students applying to DARE, please make an appointment to see Helen in 2-6A. Don’t forget Helen has drop in from 8:30-9:30am every morning with no appointment necessary. The guidance department also supports students who wish to make a HEAR application, which operate similar deadlines within the CAO process. Please feel free to discuss this in confidence with one of the guidance team.

Best of luck to 4th & 5th Year students with the continuation of your exams this week!

Any 6th Years applying for UCAS  for the January deadline should be signed up tot he school portal on November 29th. Aoife will give a UCAS tutorial at lunchtime in HG-1 on Tuesday 26th to go through the process for any students who have yet to sign up.
