Welcome to Week 13 of The Buzz Newsletter!
It’s Week 13 of The Buzz Newsletter! Congratulations to 5th Year student Ruquiya El Bakr who won second prize in The Global Leadership Link (GLL) Competition 2025. The GLL project addresses threats to intangible cultural heritage (ICH). Well done Ruquiya!
The Irish debating team took part in the Comórtas an Phiarsaigh debating competition last Wednesday for the first time in the school’s history. Comórtas an Phiarsaigh is the annual Irish language debating competition for secondary schools organised by Gael Linn. Three Leaving Cert students Aoife Duggan, Kitty Collins and Fintan Lydon were arguing against Rathdown School and will debate against Blackrock College next week. Good luck guys!
Athletics has been added to the extracurricular timetable due to student feedback. The group will meet at the ground floor breakout area at 3:30pm on Wednesdays starting this week – everyone is welcome!
All 6th Year students should now have registered for their CAO number. If you need help with your CAO course listings, please contact the guidance team to arrange a meeting.
A final reminder that the school deadline date for applying for courses in the UK is Monday 1st December. We have given a short extension but this is the final date – if you haven’t already done so, 6th Years must email ucas@instituteofeducation.ie urgently to be allocated a guidance counsellor to support your application.
5th Year student Sarah Gordon is fundraising for Embrace Badjao by collecting used cans and bottles in the special bins provided in the breakout areas. The Badjao are an indigenous tribe living in extreme poverty along the shoreline in Davao, Philippines. Help this wonderful cause by popping your empty bottles and cans into the bins!
