It’s Week 28 of The Buzz Newsletter! Congratulations to 5th Year student Lexie Burke who came third in Light Contact at the Kick-Boxing World Cup which took place in Italy recently. Lexie also has kick-boxing nationals at the end of this month where she hopes to secure a spot on the Irish kick-boxing team for the European Championships in Portugal in August. Best of luck Lexie!
Congratulations to 5th Year student Shaunak Mohapatra who along with his team, won the Hack Ireland Hackathon, Ireland’s largest hackathon. Competing against 150 participants, they secured 1st place with their project – a cutting-edge AI-driven medical assistant designed to guide patients through voice-based consultations. Well done Shaunak!
There is a golf outing for students on Monday 14th April (during Easter holidays). This outing is open to any student with an official Golf Ireland handicap index. Numbers are limited so if interested, send your name to jtaylor@instituteofeducation.ie. Tee times are 10am and 10:30am, location will be confirmed closer to the date. The cost is €20 for greens fees, lunch and prizes. This will be the last golf outing of the year so take the opportunity to get some exercise, have fun and a well earned break from study!
Tuesday 18th March is the final date for Digital Portfolio submissions for students applying for courses in IADT starting September 2025. A reminder that the guidance and pastoral team welcome out students to make as many appointments as you wish during your study or lunch breaks. There is a drop-in clinic every morning from 8:30-9:30am, no appointment is necessary or students can book in for a meeting later in the day using the QR codes on the noticeboards.
On Sunday 9th March the first ever Institute of Education Mace debate took place in the school. Keen debaters from 16 different schools competed in 3 qualifying rounds, and the final was won by The Institute’s own Nare Paronyan and Lina Hassan. Well done to all who took part and to The Institute’s debating coordinators Oisín Browne, Oisín Ward and head of extracurriculars David Connolly. We look forward to running the event again in the future!
On Wednesday 12th March The Institute held the first ever chess tournament, bringing together students from 6 different schools. After an intense evening of play, The Institute of Education team emerged victorious with Yuvan Kandru achieving a perfect score. Special thanks to The Institute’s chess coach Fiachra Scallan for organizing the event!

- This Tuesday 18th, there is a Chemistry masterclass with Tara Lyons. It is for 6th Years and is live online at 5:30pm. The link is on your Moodle.
