The Buzz Weekly Newsletter Week 30.
Welcome to Week 30 of The Buzz Newsletter!

It’s Week 30 of The Buzz Newsletter! Congratulations to The Institute students who competed at the Irish Senior Schools Relay and InterPro Championships, held at the National Aquatic Centre. Our Mixed Relay team of Sean O’Rourke, Síona Beagon, Hannah Poynton, and Ethan Noonan secured silver. The Boys Medley Relay team of Jia Li, Sean O’Rourke, Luke Wynne, and Ethan Noonan took home the bronze. Well done everyone!

The first round of the Irish Applied Teachers Association (IAMTA) Senior Applied Maths Competition 2025 took place on Thursday 6th March all around the country, with The Institute hosting it in Dublin. We hosted 50 teams and 150 students in total. Well done to The Institute teams who placed 3rd, 5th & 9th in the competition. Sincere thanks to Andy Quinn and Adam Goodwin for facilitating and to Oliver Murphy for organising.

There is a golf outing for students on Monday 14th April (during Easter holidays). This outing is open to any student with an official Golf Ireland handicap index. Numbers are limited so if interested, send your name to jtaylor@instituteofeducation.ie. Tee times are 10am and 10:30am, location will be confirmed closer to the date. The cost is €20 for greens fees, lunch and prizes. This will be the last golf outing of the year so take the opportunity to get some exercise, have fun and a well earned break from study!

With our 6th Year students settling into serious study mode for the upcoming Leaving Certificate exams, there are some options being offered in libraries at third level institutions:

  • TU Dublin are offering a Free Leaving Cert Study Programme at the libraries at each of their 5 campuses from 26th May – 24th June at Grangegorman, Aungier Street, Blanchardstown, Bolton Street and Tallaght.
  • Details of the UCD Library 2025 Leaving Certificate Student Study Programme will also be available in May.

Dublin City University (DCU) Campus Accommodation applications for international students entering in 2025 open on April 1st.

This Friday 4th April is Culture Day. Every year we invite students to wear traditional clothes from your culture to celebrate the diverse cultures in our school. There will be a culture based quiz with prizes to be won in G-7 at 11 and 4-5 at 12:30. It will mainly focus on flags of the world but students can also submit question ideas based on your own culture to studentwellbeing@instituteofeducation.ie before Thursday to be included in the quiz! Students are also invited to bring games or food from their tradition to share with other students throughout the quiz. The day will conclude with a concert in the music room at 3:45 consisting of traditional Irish music and traditional music from around the world. All students are welcome to attend!

The Dublin Minor Football panel for 2025 has been confirmed ahead of their upcoming Championship campaign. We are very proud to have three 5th year students on the panel. Congratulations to Finn McGinnis (Skerries Harps) who is the captain, Jack O’Keeffe (St. Sylvester’s) who is vice-captain, and Ciaran Clifford (St. Sylvester’s). They began their Electric Ireland Leinster Championship campaign against Offaly on Saturday with a strong win on a scoreline of 5-10 to 3-07.
