Earlier this month, Cricket Ireland issued a press release confirming that, after several years of representing Ireland at youth level, our very own 5th Year student Ava Canning had been selected to join the Irish Women’s Cricket Squad. She made her full international debut this week, at a 4 x Match series against Scotland.  These matches are not just ‘friendlies’ either, and the results will put points on the winner’s world rankings – with a view to qualifying for the next world cup.

Here is a link to the Press Release from Cricket Ireland.

We spoke with Ava’s mother who said:

“Ava is thrilled and we are delighted for her. Trying to keep full focus on her academics, despite Covid-related lockdowns and restrictions, while at the same time training and motivating herself to progress in Cricket while undergoing rehab for a broken ankle, was no easy task for her!”

We are delighted to see what she has achieved, even through some very tough times and challenges. We look forward to following both her academic success and also her future cricket accomplishments.
