Welcome to Week 30 of The Buzz Newsletter!

It’s Week 30 of The Buzz Newsletter! As always, we hope you all had a super weekend! This year’s Institute 2026 5th year essay writing competition was a fierce one with many entries and tough competition! A variety of prompts were given to the students to get their imaginations going, and they showed an impressive amount of creativity, innovation and skill, all of which impressed our external judge! We’d like to say a huge thank you to Emma Grealy who organized this years tournament, and a well done to all participating students.

the top 3 winners will have their stories printed in our yearbook, we look forward to reading the winning work!

Our Institute Boys’ Team played their 1st ever game last week and excelled, defeating St Gerard’s of Bray on Tuesday 14th April, lead by 5th year Saketh Barad starring with the bat and reaching an unbeaten 50, along with Yash Varadharajan the pick of the bowlers with 4 wickets. Following this victory, on Thursday 16th we achieved another win lead by 6th year Japnoor Singh & Saketh, resulting in a 10-wicket victory! Tomorrow we play St Mary’s in a league decider, the winners reaching the semi- final, we wish our team the best of luck!

CAO Deadline: 

  • Last date to apply to CAO for college admissions: Friday 1st May 5pm
  • Late application fee before then is 65 euro 
  • Change of Mind: Tuesday 5th May – Wednesday July 1st @5pm

There will be 1 Lunchtime Talk this week:

Wednesday 29th April, Room H1-1 from 11-11:50am: 

A Student Outreach & Recruitment Officer from University of Ulster will be presenting on all UU courses with details on steps involved in making a UCAS application. He will be giving very useful tips on making a UCAS decision, so best to attend even if you do not plan on adding UU to your list. Bring your lunch and don’t be late!

Webinars:

  • Tuesday April 28th @8pm: RCSI for BSc in Advanced Therapeutic Technologies
  • Wednesday, April 29th @6pm: TU Dublin for Computing, Digital & Data

International SAT Tests: 

Students with an interest in attending college in the US have the chance to attend SAT tests in Dublin on Saturday May 2nd. While not mandatory for all colleges, it is recommended for some US applications.

5th Year Chemistry CIP: 

Drop-In sessions continue through the week starting today the 27th until this Friday with Emma McHugh, in Pod 1.

Times: 10-11am & 2-3pm every day

Revision Classes: 

  • Every Monday – Thursday we host drop in revision classes in HL Maths. For 6th years from 7:55-8:27am in 2-3 (Mon, Wed, Thurs) & in H1-1 (Tues) & for 5th yrs 8:30 – 9am (Mon, Tues, Wed, Thurs) in L2-2.
  • Every Wednesday we have a drop in revision class in HL
    Maths with Aidan. It is for 6th years in H1-0 /
    3:30-4:30pm. Aidan covers a new topic each week.
  • Every Monday we have a drop in revision class in Economics with Rob. It is for 6th years in HG-0 /4:30-5:30pm. Rob covers a new topic each week.
  • Every Tues & Fri we have drop in revision in Biology
    with Roisin in G-4. For 6th years from 7:57 – 8:27am.
